THE 1999 WINNERS ARE...
The Q Motorsports Family
Student Racer Scholarship Program is pleased to announce the winners of the 1999 Academic Scholarship Awards:

All scholarship awards are used by the students for post high school education. The scholarship can be used towards books or tuition at vocational/technical schools, junior college or universities. Criteria for winning the scholarships include three areas. The first area is grades. The second category is motorsports racing and the final category is promotional activities in the community.
 


 

Aaron Dreher is a senior at Tarpon Springs High School who plans to go on to college. Aaron’s major field of study will be automotive/motorsports engineering. Aaron currently races an open wheel modified at Sunshine Speedway. He previously raced in champ karts. His community service includes volunteering at Neighborly Senior Center and Rebound Sports. Aaron is active in football, wrestling and baseball. He is an honor student and is listed in Who’s Who of High School students.


 

Mishael Abbott is a senior at Douglas High School who will be enrolled at Florida Atlantic University beginning in the fall. She will be pursuing a racing career with a major field of study in business. Mishael is an honor student who also participates in the school band. As a student involved in the Mentor Program, she promotes reading skills for children in Broward County. She is an active church member and a board member with "Truth", an organization which promotes healthy and drug free lifestyles for young people. Mishael races go-karts in several divisions including Yamaha Heavy Class.

 


 

Scott Poirier is a 10th grade honor student at Highlands Christian Academy in Deerfield Beach, Florida. Scott has been Florida State Champion for three years in a row in 4 Cycle Jr. Restricted Go-Carts. Other activities include soccer, boating, water skiing and wakeboarding. He is also an active participant in his church. Scott has been on several mission trips with the Church Youth Group and has fed the hungry on Thanksgiving Day. Scott plans to continue his education in a four year university program.

 



 
Sean Scampton is a 7th Grade Honor student at Pinellas Park Middle School, Pinellas Park, Florida. Sean is in the academic "gifted" program at his school. Sean is an active go-cart (sprint) racer with the Tri-City Kart Club. His activities include volunteering at the library and teaching other students at the Great American Teach In about his go-cart racing. Sean’s goal is to attend college and major in computer science.

 


 
Nicholas Andries, age eight and a second grader at Pinellas Central Elementary, is a second year recipient of the Q Motorsports Family Scholarship. Nick has good teacher recommendations and received the Super Citizen and Super Bee Awards. Nick races a 2 cycle Yamaha Junior Can-Sportsman Cart with the Tri-City Kart Club. Nick has obtained numerous sponsors for his racing hobby. Nick has set the new all-time record for his school in the one mile run. As an athlete, Nick desires to pursue football at Florida State University.

 

Michael Stephens is a senior at Riverview High School in Sarasota, Florida. In addition to achieving excellent grades, Michael participates in the Tri-City Karters Club in the 125cc shifter class. Michael achieved second in the points in 1998 in this class and has participated in go-cart racing for over eight years.  Other activities include a leadership role in the Riverview H.S. Kiltie Marching Band. Michael is a first chair tuba player in the FL West Coast Youth Symphony. Michael plans to major in mechanical engineering in a four year university.
