THE 2010 WINNERS ARE.....

Kyle Jeffries (left) and Brandon Marks received $1,000
each to study engineering at USF.

BRANDON MARKS Brandon has lived in Florida nearly his entire life, growing up in the suburbs around Orlando. He came to USF straight from high school and entered with 32 transfer credits from AP classes. He is majoring in mechanical engineering and will graduate in May 2011. He plans to pursue a master’s degree in either mechanical or automotive engineering and would like to eventually work in the energy or automotive industry. He is a member of the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) organization at USF and has been a member since he was a freshman. He has led the drive train design of both a Baja and Formula SAE car. SAE races competitively against other college engineering organizations across the nation. Brandon also is the treasurer and manager of SAE, with the largest budget of any student government funded student organization. According to Brandon, “the SAE has been the most enriching aspect of my time at USF allowing me to meet great people, do great things and get a one of a kind hands on education experience. Since I have been at USF, I have experienced and accomplished many things I would have never imagined when I left high school and I hope the same is true once I leave USF.”

KYLE JEFFRIESKyle is a senior majoring in mechanical engineering and will graduate in May 2011. He has taken the long path to get his degree, but the important thing is that he never forgot his goals! He is heavily involved in the USF chapter of the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) where he is currently serving as the 2011 team captain. As team captain, he is in charge of overseeing the design of the 2011 Formula SAE car and managing roughly 15 people. They have ambitious goals for this 2011 season and look forward to showcasing the design at Formula SAE Michigan and Formula SAE California in the Spring of 2011. In addition to going to school full time and his commitments to USF SAE, Kyle also works full time for a small business in Tampa. Once completing his degree, he plans on pursing a career in some form of motorsports as an automotive engineer or working for a motorsports supplier in an engineering capacity.
